Lebanon Mountain Trail Association (LMTA)
Since 2007, The LMTA has been working to develop and protect the LMT and to promote socially responsible tourism that safeguards natural, cultural, historical heritage & hidden beauty along the trailside.
History
Goals
For the Lebanon Mountain Trail to become a world-class destination for outdoor and responsible tourism, to become protected by the Government of Lebanon, Municipalities, and local communities, and to be recognized by international organizations.
Develop, maintain and conserve the LMT
Enhance economic opportunities
- 560 Km of hiking trails, Traced, Blazed, mapped out (including side trails)
- Interpreted from the north to the south of Lebanon
- Created jobs and empowered hundreds of women/ youth
- 60+accommodations (200 individuals’ min)
- 50 trained local guides
The Environmental Championship Program ECP (ABTAL EL BIA)
Is an Environmental Education Program for kids (ages between 10 & 13 years old) from public & private schools from different regions and backgrounds.
ECP is for the kids to become passionate about the environment, to develop an emotional connection, a sense of belonging, and responsibility towards one’s community and surrounding environment, therefore transmitting their new awareness about sustainability.
Trail Keepers Program
The Lebanon Mountain Trail Association launched its ‘Trail Keepers’ program in 2019, to help raise funds for the maintenance and protection of the LMT. Because large resources are required to maintain and protect more than 600 km of trail (main LMT trail and side trails), the program offers to fund one kilometre at a time to individuals or groups. Protecting and maintaining the LMT also supports responsible tourism, safeguarding our mountains and local economies
Accessible Nature Program – (Trails for All on the LMT)
At LMTA, we believe that people of all abilities should have access to the beauty of Lebanon’s mountains, trails, and the great outdoors.
The Accessible Nature Program aims to allow the enjoyment of trails by people with disabilities through new services and equipment on trails. This includes guided assistance with adaptive equipment such as the Joelette one-wheel chair and the directional bars for visually impaired persons in addition to accessible trail sections specially designed and equipped for persons with disability.
